A mentalist reads minds, predicts choices and pulls small details about real guests into the show. There are no cards to shuffle and no props on a table. The material comes from the people in the room, so two shows for two companies never run the same way. You can hire a mentalist in Singapore for a corporate dinner, a dinner and dance, a product launch, a wedding or a private party for adults.
Price: a mentalist usually costs SGD 1,500 to 3,500. See magician prices in Singapore.
Mentalist or magician?
A magician's material is fixed: the cards, coins and props do the same trick for a birthday party or a board meeting. A mentalist works the other way round, with psychology, suggestion and prediction, usually spoken through a microphone. That is why a corporate crowd who already know each other tends to respond so strongly. If you want sleight of hand with cards and coins, book a close-up magician instead.
Two formats
Stage set. A scripted show of 25 to 30 minutes on a stage or raised platform, with a wireless microphone. It usually goes between courses at a dinner or just before the main item at a launch. Most corporate dinners and dinner and dance nights book this format, because the whole room has one focal point.
Roving mentalism. A close-up version performed standing, moving between small groups during the cocktail reception. It needs no stage, only open floor with guests still mingling. Like roving magic, it does not work once guests are seated for dinner.
Built around your guests
Before the show, the mentalist usually asks you for a short list of names, roles or light background on a few guests. That lets real details appear in the performance. During the show, volunteers come up from the floor and the material follows what they say and do.
Use the briefing to flag sensitive topics and any guests who should not be called up. A short call or a written note before the event makes a real difference to how well the show fits your crowd.
Which events suit a mentalist
- Corporate dinners and dinner and dance nights. The most common booking, as a stage set. See corporate magicians.
- Product launches. The same stage format, sometimes with the product or brand name in the show.
- Weddings. Usually roving mentalism during the cocktail hour. See wedding magicians.
- Private parties. A milestone birthday or a home gathering, as a short stage set or roving.
What the venue needs
For a stage set: a stage or small raised platform, a wireless headset or handheld microphone, house or rented sound, and a chair or two for volunteers. Hotel ballrooms and restaurant function rooms usually have house sound. Roving mentalism needs no equipment.
